Writing articles, reports, theses, etc. with references is an essential part of a scientist's life. If all references are added manually, the writing process will be laborious and tiresome, especially when you write an article with several tens of references. One way to make our life easier is to use a program like Endnote to add citations.
Endnote is a software that helps you to manage your citations and references. Endnote X8 is not free but many universities buy this software. So you can get one by logging in to your universities' websites or ask at the IT desks. If your university, unfortunately, does not have this software, you can download the free version Endnote basic to try.

In this post, I will tell about Endnote X8. I hope that it is the same for Endnote basic.
First of all, when you install the software, Endnote add-in will also appear in your Word. Like this:
When you want to cite an article, just click on Endnote X8, insert citations. A window will pop out like this:
Now you can type an author's name, chose the right link that you want to add. Press "insert".
The citations are available in almost all of the publishers' website so you do not need to type them manually. For example, one article from Springer:
All of the papers that I have cited until now have citation tool like that.
Another advantage of using Endnote is you can add the article directly next to the reference. To open the article, just double-click on it or right click then choose to open in other software
You can also edit the style of references:
Happy writing.
